The Automatics (best remembered
for their highly collectable 1978 Pop/Punk classic "Whenthe tanks roll
over Poland again") released their new CD single, "Old
River Thames" (taken from the new album "Britannia")
on Dork Records (UR10) on 4th December 2006.
Also included on the single is a new,
re-mixed version of "Trash" (from
the 2004 album "Forty Virgins in the Afterlife" with guitar by the
Sex Pistols` Steve Jones), plus a hitherto unreleased track "Wonderful
Day" (featuring Paul McCartney`s current guitarist, Brian
Ray).

The Automatics' current single "England
Expects" entered the brand new Big L Radio London charts at No.23, as broadcast
on Big L Radio on 3rd September 2006 by presenter Mike Read. This gives
The Automatics their first National chart placing since their 1978 single
"When the tanks roll over Poland again" topped the (then) newly conceived
Punk/Alternative charts and gives Dork Records it`s first National chart
placing since The Stiffs' 1979 'Indie' hit "Inside Out".
Mike Read has also nominated
the new Automatics album "Britannia" as his 'album of the week', for the
week commencing 3rd September 2006.
“It's all about the music we, here at
Big L, love, and indeed, what we feel our listeners love,” said
the station's anchorman, legendary broadcaster, Mike Read. “There's
an abundance of great music out there that simply isn't played by the corporate
radio stations. With true pirate nonchalance, we will play what we want
to play. We won't discriminate on age either; if Donovan has a great new
album out, we'll play him side by side with a band like Razorlight.”
The Automatics` frontman Dave Philp
promoted their new album "Britannia" on the Big L Radio Summer roadshow,
which was hosted by former Radio One deejay Mike Read, appearing at the
following dates:
15th. August 2006 - Clacton-on Sea;
17th. August 2006 - Great Yarmouth; 18th.August 2006 - Caister
The Clacton date made national headlines
after Read`s co-presenter 'Smiley Miley' was rushed to hospital by paramedics,
when a stunt involving a 12 ft Python went horribly wrong !(
It was in the Daily Express, so it MUST be true !)
